A MALE CYCLIST in his 20s has been seriously injured following a hit-and-run in Ballymun this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services attended to the serious hit-and-run collision at around 7.45am on the Shangan Road, Dublin 9.

The man, who was on a pedal bike, was taken from the scene to the Mater Misericordiae Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver left the scene.

The road is currently closed, and the scene is being technically examined by local crime scene investigators, with local diversions are in place.

A garda spokesperson said they were continuing to investigate “a serious hit and run road traffic collision” that occurred on the Shangan Road, Ballymun at approximately 7.45am.

The collision involved a black Volkswagen Passat and a male pedal cyclist, the spokesperson said.

The male cyclist (aged in his 20s) was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

“The car failed to remain at the scene and was subsequently located by investigating gardaí,” the spokesperson said.

Gardaí believe that a second vehicle was present during the incident are looking for a White Volvo XC90 Jeep with a 231- D registration.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, from the area at the time are asked to make this footage available.
