NEW PERMANENT TRAFFIC arrangements will come into effect on Dawson Street, Dublin today.
These changes are being implemented as “part of the ongoing delivery of Luas Cross City”.
Existing traffic arrangements will remain in place from St Stephen’s Green North to Molesworth Street. All traffic is permitted in the northbound direction. A contra-flow tram lane is running in the southbound direction.
However, a two-way traffic flow has been introduced on Dawson Street between Molesworth Street and Duke Street with a number of new restrictions.
Effective since this morning, only trams and buses are permitted to travel in the northbound direction. All other traffic on Dawson Street must turn right onto Molesworth Street to exit the area.
Similarly, only trams are permitted to travel in the southbound direction. Vehicles coming from Duke Street and Dawson Lane must now travel southbound on Dawson Street and turn left onto Molesworth Street to exit the area.
Only buses and trams are now permitted in the northbound direction of Dawson Street from Duke Street to Nassau Street. The contra-flow tram lane is in operation in the southbound direction.
Access to Nassau Street
General traffic is not permitted to travel along Dawson Street to access Nassau Street when coming from St Stephen’s Green North.
Instead, motorists are being asked to access Nassau Street by turning right on St Stephen’s Green north at the Shelbourne Hotel onto Kildare Street and take the second left onto Molesworth Street, travelling down onto South Frederick Street.
Traffic turning off Dawson Street onto Molesworth Street can now travel to Nassau Street by taking the first left onto South Frederick Street.
New traffic signage is in place to assist road users, according to Luas Cross City.
These changes are being made a month after Dublin City Council implemented new traffic arrangements on the north and south city centre quays.

Dublin City Council said those changes were “introduced to coincide with the Luas Cross City tram testing and to ensure that these permanent changes have time to bed down before regular day time tram testing starts in September”.
Last week, Luas Cross City began daily tram testing.
