GREEK SINGER DEMIS Roussos, who sold more than 60 million albums worldwide, has died in hospital in Athens.

He was 68.

The hospital confirmed today that the world-renowned singer had died at the weekend.

Roussos became popular in the 1960s and 1970s. Originally part of progressive rock group Aphrodite’s Child in the 1960s, he began a hugely successful solo career in 1971. He was best known for his solo hits Forever and Ever, Goodbye and Quand Je T’Aime.

His most recent album was released in 2009.

Roussos was born in Egypt to a Greek father and an Egyptian-Italian mother. The family moved to Greece after losing all their possessions during the Suez Crisis.

He had been in the hospital with an undisclosed illness for some time.
