Deutsche Bank chief Josef Ackermann targeted with letter bomb
Frankfurt police were notified by bank staff who found a suspicious package in the company’s mail room yesterday.
GERMAN POLICE are investigating a package sent to the Deustche Bank chief Josef Ackermann which they saw was a viable letter bomb.
Deutsche Bank spokesperson Klaus Winker said that staff contacted police after discovering a suspicious package among incoming post at the bank’s headquarters in Frankfurt yesterday afternoon.
Frankfurt police investigating the incident contacted the NYPD in the US to say that an item addressed to Ackermann was discovered after it was x-rayed in the bank’s mail room. NYPD spokesperson Paul Browne said that the US authorities were also told that the return address marked on the suspicious package was the European Central Bank.
The ECB’s headquarters are also based in Frankfurt.
The NYPD issued warnings to Deustche Bank’s New York branch and to other banks in the city after being contacted by the German authorities.
