Carmy returns to Chicago following a heartbreaking death in his family, as his brother takes his own life. The shock reverberates through the close-knit family, and Carmy attempts to revive his brother’s restaurant, The Original Beef, with a haphazard staff and amidst grappling with the ongoing impacts of the family tragedy.
The must-see drama will certainly appeal to those who enjoy edgy drama, as Carmy doesn’t get along swimmingly with the inherited staff at The Original Beef from the start. And those with a penchant for comedy will enjoy the series as pithy repartee between Carmy’s brother’s loyal friends carries many an episode.
If you perk up at the mention of a James Beard award (Carmy has won one and keeps the award ceremony invitation tucked into a much-loved cookbook), you’ll tune in just for the camera angles that make simple meals look award-worthy.
If you followed actor Jeremy Allen White in the long-loved series Shameless, he’s fired up a similarly appealing character. Rough around the edges, but lovable despite his own faults. In fact, The Bear has made Allen White one of the top heartthrobs of the season.
