DoneDeal of the Week: This BMW 1 Series is a cracking little family hatch

But if you need more space we have another BMW for you.

LOOKING FOR A great family hatchback that is enjoyable to drive? Then this BMW 1 Series five-door hatchback for €11,500 could be the car for you.

The BMW 1 Series is a cracking little car. It is rear-wheel drive, is nice and balanced whilst cornering and it steers quite accurately too.

The steering is light and this 118d version has plenty of punch. It is in great condition and is finished in metallic paint with alloy wheels.

Like the 1 Series above it is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine and has a manual transmission but it is one year younger than the 1 Series and it has fewer kilometres on the clock.

The BMW 3 Series has been around since the mid 1970s and it is a great executive car. It has a good image and offers great performance and driving dynamics. The steering is more comfortably weighted compared to the 1 Series but its body control isn’t as good as the smaller 1 Series.

So, if you do a lot of city driving, have a small family and don’t carry lots of cargo then the smaller hatchback BMW 1 Series is a good choice for you. However, if you have older children, need more space or do long commutes then the large estate 3 Series may be a better choice.
