Things we learned, loved and shared today…

HERE ARE THE things you need to know as we round off the day in three easy steps.

THINGS WE LEARNED

  • It’s been a bad day for Labour with MEP Nessa Childers resigning from the parliamentary party and the party forced to deny suggestions that Eamon Gilmore had been ringing around TDs and senators seeking to shore up support for his leadership.
  • A man has died in Tipperary after the partial collapse of a mine. Part of the Lisheen Mine collapsed at around 4.40pm yesterday afternoon with the man trapped underneath rockfall.
  • A report into the sinking of the Tit Bonhomme fishing vessel off the Cork coast last year which saw five people die has found that fatigue among the six crew members was the main factor in the sinking, RTÉ reports.
  • Almost 60,000 people have paid the property tax according to figures released this evening. The Revenue Commissioners said that it has so far issued about 1.2 million letters to households across the country.
  • The tensions in the Korean peninsula continued today with North Korea telling European countries it cannot guarantee the safety of their embassies as it today moved two mid-range missiles to its east coast.
  • Doctors at the Irish Medical Organisation’s annual conference have rejected three motions concerning abortion today. Motions to support legislation for the X Case, abortion in cases of rape or incest and abortion where there is a fatal foetal abnormality were rejected.
