Fire in derelict building at Cork naval base extinguished

The fire started around 8:30pm Thursday night in a disused building.

A FIRE IN a naval base in Haulbowline, Co Cork has been extinguished.

The blaze broke out in a disused building around 8:30pm last night. The Defence Forces said there were no casualties.

Naval fire crews were assisted by two units of Carrigaline Fire Service as well as a further three units from Midleton, Crosshaven and Cork.

Gardaí were also at the scene and evacuated the surrounding area as a precaution.

This morning the Defence Forces said crews have extinguished the fire.

A full investigation will be carried out to determine the cause.
