Funeral for man (81) found dead at Tipperary home to take place this Friday

Timothy ‘Teddy’ Murnane was well-known as a former bus driver in the town.

THE FUNERAL DETAILS have been released for the man who passed away after being found with injuries outside his home in Tipperary town on the night of Friday 12 September.

Timothy ‘Teddy’ Murnane (81) was found by his wife next to the garage at his home in the St Michael’s Avenue area of the town at around 9.35pm.

Neighbours rushed to his help after a commotion was heard. The alarm was raised, and he was rushed to hospital, where he was said to be in a critical condition.

Mr Murnane passed away from his injuries in Limerick University Hospital on Monday morning.

Sean Harding (31), of Marian Terrace, Tipperary Town, appeared before Nenagh District Court on Monday following his arrest as part of the investigation into the assault on Mr Murnane.

He will appear before Thurles district court by video link later today. 

Mr Murnane was well-known as a former bus driver in the town. He was also a huge Tipperary hurling supporter and regularly drove buses of supporters to Tipperary games.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Rachel, sons Patrick and Timothy. His remains will repose at Whelan’s Funeral Home, Bansha Road, Tipperary tomorrow evening from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Mass for Teddy will take place in St. Michael’s Church, Tipperary Town on Friday at 12 noon with burial afterwards in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Tipperary Town.

Paying tribute, local county councillor Anne Marie Ryan Shiner (SF) said the whole town was “reeling”. 

“The whole community is just numb at this stage and so shocked by what has happened.”
