Woman in her 80s killed in Galway house fire

AN ELDERLY WOMAN has died in a house fire in Galway.

The woman, who was in her 80s, was pronounced dead by emergency services at the scene in Brierfield, near Tuam.

The blaze broke out at around 10.15pm last night, gardaí said.

Two other occupants of the house managed to escape and are being treated in Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination by gardaí, who said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
