Gardaí said the other car is believed to have been involved in criminal activity earlier in the evening.

A GARDA IN Waterford was injured last night when the patrol car he was in was rammed.

The incident occurred at around 9pm last night at Ballyrafter in Lismore. The garda was on patrol after suspicious activity was reported in the area.

A garda spokesperson said a patrol car was involved in a collision with an Audi A4 saloon, which then fled the scene.

“It is believed the vehicle was involved in criminal activity earlier that evening,” they said.

One officer in the patrol car received back, neck and arm injuries and is currently being treated at University Hospital Waterford.

It is understood the car has now been located and will be subject to a technical examination.
