Gardaí seize €5million cocaine haul in Cork

Five men were arrested as part of an investigation into an international drug trafficking gang.

GARDAÍ AND CUSTOMS officers have seized a consignment of cocaine with an estimated street value of €5million in Fermoy, Co Cork.

The seizure came as drug unit officers working with Interpol and Dutch law enforcement agencies raided an industrial premises in the Bartlemy area this afternoon around 4.15pm. Two men, an Irish national aged 45 and a 56-year-old German, were arrested at the scene.

Another three people – two Irish men aged 42 and 65, and one 46-year-old Hungarian – were arrested during follow-up searches in Cork and Dublin.

Gardaí said the raid was carried out as part of an investigation into an international drug trafficking gang. The cocaine was concealed in a shipping container which arrived at Cork Port from Rotterdam.

The five men are currently being questioned at Cobh, Crumlin, Terenure and Midleton garda stations where they are being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.
