THE LIST OF nominees for the 75th Golden Globe Awards has been released – and a few Irish names have made the cut.
Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has been nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in Lady Bird, which explores the turbulent relationship between a Californian mother and her daughter (Lady Bird has also been nominated for a Best Picture award).
Kilkenny-based animation studio Cartoon Saloon has received a nomination for its film The Breadwinner about a girl who faces a series of challenges under Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
Irish director Martin McDonagh has also been nominated for Best Director for his work on the crime drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Best Screenplay for the same film.
McDonagh’s film is also up for the Best Motion Picture award, along with the World War 2 film Dunkirk, which stars Irishman Cillian Murphy.
Daniel Day Lewis has been nominated alongside Tom Hanks, Gary Oldman and Denzel Washington for the Best Actor in a drama role.

In the television category, Irish actress and model Caitríona Balfe has been nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for her performance in Outlander.
The Crown, Game of Thrones and The Handmaid’s Tale are among the five nominees for Best Television Series.
