Health Research Board targeted by cyberattack

Employees have been told to stay home today.

THE HEALTH RESEARCH Board has been targeted with a cyberattack.

Employees at the state organisation received text messages today warning them not to open their laptops and instructing them to remain at home.

The text messages, seen by The Journal, go on to say that the board’s IT team are working to “isolate and contain security issues”.

Employees have also been told to ignore notifications on their work phones.

The Health Research Board (HRB) funds research projects at universities and hospitals with the aim of advancing the understanding of health issues.

It is a state body that operates under the Department of Health and oversees the allocation of around €50 million in research funding every year.
