Hotel and shopping centre targetted in Kabul blast

Three killed in suicide bomb attack in Afghan capital today.

AT LEAST THREE PEOPLE have been killed and several others injured in a suicide bomb attack on a hotel and shopping centre in the Afghan capital Kabul today, Al Jazeera reports.

A police official told the AP that one person appears to have entered the complex and detonated explosives inside the entrance, before a group of insurgents followed them in.

Two of those killed are understood to be security guards.

The building has been surrounded by hundreds of Afghan forces and armed militants may still be inside the building. The BBC reports that a gun battle broke out between insurgents and security forces in the aftermath of the explosion.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The same building was seriously damaged in a bomb attack last year.
