WATERFORD SENIOR HURLING manager Davy Fitzgerald owes Clare County Council more than €13,000 in rates.
The Star reports today that the former intercounty hurler, trading as the Belsfort Inn public house in Newmarket-on-Fergus, was ordered to pay the council the rates.
He has already paid €3,200 of the €16,637.29 that he owed.
His solicitor told the court that Fitzgerald was in “poor” financial circumstances.
