FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA once said that Irish ice cream is the best in the world.
Far be it from us to quibble with genius. With that in mind, and with good weather nipping at our ankles, we’ve asked around for some recommendations for the best places to get an ice cream in Ireland.
Behold…
There’s one on Wicklow Street in Dublin and a shop in Killarney too, but Dingle is where this mini ice cream empire started out.
Famous for their ice cream sundaes and multitudes of toppings after a day by the water.
The seaside town of Portstewart has plenty of ice cream options on offer. UK chain Maudsis a favourite, as is…
Morelli’s has been a Northern Ireland institution since the turn of the 20th century, serving up award winning ice cream.
Gino’s homemade Italian gelato has become a favourite in prominent locations around the country, from Dublin to Cork to Galway. The store on Shop Street in Galway has been singled out by one reader as a favourite for a quick cone.
Described by an Italian on Tripadvisor as “the best” in Ireland. High praise indeed.
Homemade ice cream, crepes, 99s, cakes, scones… the list is endless. People mostly come for the homemade ice cream though.
Famed for the 99 and the legendary Blizz.
Three generations of the same family have been serving 99s to the good people of Ballyshannon over the years.
Handmade in the store. It doesn’t get much fresher than that.
Beautiful retro decor and ice cream sundaes and cones to die for.
Forte’s has been providing a welcome rest for weary shoppers for decades. Try the hot choc dip.
Jaybees is famed for its carrot cake, but is also well known as the place to stop for a cone on the road to Dunmore.
A Dun Laoghaire institution; no list would be complete without a 99 from Teddy’s.
