Two investigations launched into Luas collision in which woman died

The woman was hit by Luas just after midnight on Friday night at St James Walk, Rialto, Dublin 8.

INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN launched following the death of a woman who was hit by a Luas tram on Friday night.

The woman in her 50s was hit by a Red Line tram at 12.35am early on Saturday morning at St James Walk, Rialto, Dublin 8.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for Luas operator Transdev said investigations are currently ongoing by Transdev and the Railway Accident Investigation Unit (RAIU).

The scene of the incident was closed to allow a Garda forensic investigation. It has since been reopened.

When asked if the driver of the Luas involved in the incident is receiving care and has been offered leave, a spokesperson for Transdev said:

The services of the company are available to the driver and to all staff who were working on the night.
