Irish Gaza protestors return home

The remaining activists had been detained by Israeli authorities after attempting to break the blockade of Gaza.

THE FINAL SEVEN Irish activists who were detained in Gaza have returned home today.

They arrived on a 3.45pm flight from London this afternoon, IrishShiptoGaza.org reports.

Yesterday there was confusion over seven of the 14 activists who were due to leave Israel, with only five of them arriving back at Dublin airport late last night.

The activists were detained by Israeli authorities last week after they attempted to break the blockade of Gaza.

RTÉ reports that the group received a warm welcome

Felim Egan told RTÉ News that he “didn’t expect that level of brutality, of violence, of really excessive use of power that was used against us”.

Fianna Fáil’s Chris Andrews commented that the experience was “extremely frustrating and very tense” and that the activists were “up one minute and down one minute”.

He said the Israeli authorities “seemed to be playing games”.

Earlier today, The Department of Foreign Affairs told TheJournal.ie that it has “protested in very strong terms” to the Israeli authorities after they failed to inform British Airways that it was to carry seven deportees on a flight to Heathrow airport yesterday morning.
