Katie Taylor

Katie Taylor gets her own 20 punt note*

*Sort of.

YESTERDAY, OLYMPIC BOXING silver medallist John Joe Nevin replaced James Joyce as the face on the local tourist currency of Mullingar - so it’s only fair that Olympic gold medallist Katie Taylor has her face on a note (sort of).

An Punt Nua was sufficiently inspired by the ‘Gar’ note yesterday that it has released an image of Katie Taylor adorning a twenty punt note.

Notwithstanding the fact this isn’t legal currency, we like how this note takes its colour inspiration from the Irish flag, and features Taylor celebrating her win – and landing a left hook on her opponent in last week’s final, Sofya Ochigava.

Thousands of people turned out to welcome Taylor home to Bray yesterday.

She arrived in an open top bus, and was seen telling master of ceremonies Des Cahill that the response was “unbelieveable”.
