Updated 17.24

A 56-YEAR-OLD* man was injured in a stabbing in Dundalk yesterday evening.

Gardaí in Dundalk investigating the incident have issued an appeal for information about the knife attack which occurred at Patrick Street at about 6.30pm.

The victim was taken to hospital and his condition has been described as serious but not life-threatening. He received wounds to the face, neck and arm.

It is understood that there was more than one culprit. According to the Garda press office, the man was sitting in his grey Renault car when he was approached by three men.

One of the men got into the car and allegedly stabbed the victim. The three men then fled the scene on foot towards Del a Sal terrace. The injured man exited his car and entered a nearby pub, looking for help. He left the premises but collapsed on the street outside.

Investigating Gardaí would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information to contact the Gardaí at Dundalk 042-9388400, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

*An earlier version of this article incorrectly referred to the victim as a 46-year-old.
