Man (40s) assaulted in Drimnagh last night, leading to closure of Suir Road Luas stop

The incident happened at around 11.30pm last night.

THE SUIR ROAD Luas stop is “closed until further notice” following an assault last night.

In a statement on social media at around 1am last night, Luas informed passengers that the Suir Road stop was “closed until further notice on foot of a Garda directive”.

Luas reissued this advice this morning and stated that Red Line passengers should use Rialto or Goldenbridge as alternative stops.

Luas has apologised for any inconvenience caused.

In a statement to The Journal, a garda spokesperson said that shortly after 11.30pm last night, gardaí were alerted after a man in his 40s was assaulted “in the course of an incident” on Davitt Road, Dublin 12.

The man was taken by ambulance to St James’s Hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The scene is preserved for technical examination and garda inquiries are ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Sundrive Garda Road Station on 01 6666600 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Earlier, Red line Luas services were suspended between Blackhorse and Heuston Station over an “issue” at Stevens Lane.

However, Luas advises that full services have now resumed.
