US SECRET SERVICE officers arrested a man who became “combative” today after approaching a motorcade carrying defeated Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney to the White House.
The incident happened as Romney arrived at a security checkpoint before entering the White House complex for his first meeting with President Barack Obama since the end of their bitter election campaign.
“An individual interfered with a motorcade as it was entering a checkpoint at the White House,” said Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary.
The individual became combative with uniformed division officers and the individual was arrested for assault on a police officer and unlawful entry.
Romney, sitting in the passenger seat of a big Lincoln car, rolled up at a side entrance of the West Wing soon afterwards and spent an hour and twenty minutes inside, meeting Obama.
The former Massachusetts governor had a personal Secret Service detail during the campaign as a presidential nominee, but lost his protection soon after he was defeated on November 6.
