Man charged after cannabis worth €183k found in baggage of passenger arriving from Thailand

A man in his 20s was subsequently arrested and has since been charged to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice.

A MAN HAS been charged after €183,000 worth of cannabis was discovered inside the baggage of a passenger who arrived at Dublin Airport on a flight from Thailand.

The seizure of over 9kg of herbal cannabis was made at the airport yesterday.

The cannabis was concealed within the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked a flight from Thailand.

A man in his 20s was subsequently arrested and detained at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

He has since been charged to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.

A Revenue spokesperson meanwhile remarked that the seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.

The spokesperson added: “If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.”
