A MAN IN his 40s has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in north Co Dublin last night that killed a pedestrian.

The incident happened on Railway Street in Balbriggan after 9pm on Monday. 

The car involved failed to remain at the scene. 

The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, received emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by the Office of the State Pathologist at Dublin City Mortuary, gardaí said. A preliminary report has been furnished to the investigation team, while specific details are not being released at this time for operational reasons.

“The scene has been fully examined by the Garda Technical Bureau and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The road has since reopened to traffic.”

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward, and have appealed for people not to share footage of the incident online.

Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, from the area at the time are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
