Man appears in court over Co Mayo shooting

A woman in her 50s sustained leg injuries when she was shot in a shop in Balla, Co Mayo, earlier in the week by a lone gunman.

A MAN IN his 40s has appeared in Ballina District Court today in connection with a shooting at a supermarket in Balla, Co Mayo, on Tuesday.

A woman in her 50s was shot and injured by a lone gunman as she walked into a Costcutter shop where she worked on the village Main Street at around 6.30pm. The woman, a mother of five, was brought to Mayo General Hospital with leg injuries.

Vincent O’Donnell, with an address at Knocknabrone, Mayo Abbey, was arrested man in Claremorris on Tuesday evening and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

Today the judge recommended that he undergo medical assessment, according to RTÉ, and remanded O’Donnell in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on 10 June.
