Man due in court over bungled post office robbery

A man will appear in court today charged in connection with the robbery of a Rathmines post office during the lunch-hour rush yesterday – after which he tried to escape in a taxi.

A MAN IS due to appear in court this morning charged in connection with the robbery of a Dublin post office yesterday.

The man, aged in his 30s, will appear in the Criminal Court at 10.30am over the incident.

The robbery took place at the Rathmines post office at lunchtime on Tuesday. An eyewitness told TheJournal.ie: “I was talking to my friend next to me and the next I looked and saw the guy scaling the glass counter space.”

Gardaí said the man entered the premises, threatened staff and then made his escape with a sum of money. He was arrested by gardaí as he tried to make a getaway in a taxi.

A garda spokesman said that the suspect had been “armed with what appeared to be a firearm”.
