Man sentenced to life in prison for Dublin murder

One man has been sentenced to life for the murder of the father-of three, while two co-accused are found not guilty and no verdict is reached on a fourth defendant.

A DUBLIN MAN has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of another man in the city two years ago.

Peter Kenny, 28, from Rialto in Dublin, was found guilty of shooting John Carroll, 33, in The Coombe in 2009. Two others who were accused of Carroll’s murder, Damien Johnston from Crumlin and Bernard Hempenstall from The Coombe, were found not guilty, RTÉ reports.

A verdict was not reached on fourth man, 25-year-old Christopher Zambra, who also stands accused of murder. The Director of Public Prosecutions must now decide whether Zambra will face a retrial.

Father-of-three Carroll was shot four times while socialising at Grumpy Jack’s pub in The Coombe on February 18, 2009, reports the Irish Times.

In a victim impact statement, Carroll’s children said that they hoped their father’s killers go to hell, reports 98FM.
