A DUBLIN COUNCILLOR’S office has been vandalised due to his support of tougher busking regulation.

Mannix Flynn has posted pictures of the damage to his Ormond Quay office – including graffiti and smashed windows – on Twitter. The artist lives at the same premises.

He said the incident was “a traumatic shock to the system” as the vandal or vandals wrote “horrendous graffiti of a sexual nature related to me”.

At about 3.30am on Wednesday, Flynn awoke after an empty beer barrel was thrown through one of the building’s windows.

I roared at them out the window and they were gone, they vanished into the night.

He said about €1,000 of damage was caused.

On Monday night, Dublin City Council voted in favour of by-laws that will see the introduction of a permit system for performers, an 80 decibel limit on amplifiers and a limit of two hours on performances.

Flynn actually voted against the new rules as they didn’t include a complete ban on amplifiers. Some of the graffiti daubed on the walls of the building reads: ‘No Way. We won’t pay to play.’

More of it references the abuse Flynn suffered in Letterfrack Industrial School. He has labelled the graffiti “disgusting”.

Gardaí are investigating the incident.

Flynn said it was now apparent that “public representatives need to be on their toes” following a spate of incidents such as the verbal attack on President Higgins and the suspected arson attack on Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin’s office

He said it is worrying that there seems to be “a normalistaion that it’s okay to attack a politician”.
