Men rescued from burning boat after explosion

The incident happened just out from the village of Oranmore shortly after 1pm yesterday.

TWO MEN HAVE been taken to hospital after an explosion on a boat off the coast of Galway.

The incident happened near to the village of Oranmore at around 1.20pm yesterday afternoon.

After spotting the fire on board the vessel, a passing boat pulled up and allowed the two on board to escape to safety.

Both men were then taken to University Hospital Galway where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí have said that what happened on board the boat was a mechanical error and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The Connacht Tribune has reported that a coastguard helicopter was also in attendance at the scene.
