The 9 at 9 US and Ukraine draft ‘refined peace framework’, three charged after US military plane spray painted at Shannon, and we put Penneys ‘made to last’ claims to the test

LAST UPDATE | 24 Nov 2025

GOOD MORNING.

Here’s all the news that you need to know as you start your day.

Ukraine

1. Washington and Kyiv said any eventual deal to halt the war with Russia must fully uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty, after what’s been described as “constructive” talks between US, Ukrainian and European officials in Geneva.

Sustainable fashion

2. Penneys claims it’s making clothes to last – so we put them to the test. But from jeans that changed colour to a jumper that bobbled after a handful of wears, a lot of clothes did not hold up.

Green promises

3. The Journal also investigated the green promises made by luxury brands and high street retailers. Unlike other products such as cars and household appliances, fashion remains something of a wild west of self-regulation when it comes to the environment.

Shannon Airport

4. Members of the Defence Forces tasked to protect a US military aircraft at Shannon airport drew their weapons briefly in response to an alleged “planned and premeditated” airport incursion by three pro-Palestinian activists, a court heard last night.

Nigeria

5. At least 50 of the more than 300 children snatched by gunmen from a Catholic school in Nigeria have escaped their captors, a Christian group said yesterday.

Ukraine peace deal

6. Our reporter Eoghan Dalton is in South Africa for the G20 Summit and writes that G20 world leaders were left rattled by the sudden reemergence of Trump’s Ukraine deal.

Dame Street

7. A car crashed into the shopfront of a 24-hour Centra on Dame Street in Dublin city centre last night.

Cop30

8. Former president Mary Robinson said that she is “more positive” about COP30 after reassessing the agreement, despite the disappointment over the lack of a formal fossil fuel phase-out.

Limerick

9. A man in his 20s is due in court this morning after gardaí seized almost €500,000 worth of suspected cocaine in Co Limerick over the weekend.
