Motorcyclist dies following Mayo crash, while garda hospitalised in separate collision in Dublin

Separately, a garda has been hospitalised after another road traffic collision on Churchtown Road Upper in Dundrum, Dublin 14 this morning.

A MOTORCYCLIST WHO was injured in a crash in Mayo has died in hospital.

The collision, which also involved a car, occurred at around 4.50pm on Castlebar Road, Newport yesterday.

A man aged in his 50s who was driving a motorbike was conveyed to Mayo University Hospital where he has since passed away.

No other injuries were reported.

A man aged in his 60s was later arrested in connection with the investigation and subsequently released without charge pending further investigations.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Separately, a garda has been hospitalised after a road traffic collision on Churchtown Road Upper in Dundrum, Dublin 14 this morning.

Shortly before 10am gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident involving a car and garda motorcycle.

The on-duty garda member was taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson said welfare supports have been made available to the garda by local management.

The road which had been closed for a period of time has since reopened to traffic.

Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area between 9:30am and 10:00am this morning, 19th August 2025, are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
