KILKENNY-BASED MYBIO has taken the top prize at Ireland’s National Enterprise Awards last night.

The business, which was founded in 2009 by local entrepreneur Linda Nolan, was declared the event’s overall winner for its work supplying research products and technology to the scientific sector.

MyBio was one of five Irish startups and SMEs recognised at the awards, which are now in their 18th year. The finalists were picked from the 24,000 businesses supported through the national Local Enterprise Office network.

Nolan, who has a doctorate from Waterford Institute of Technology, told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland being based in Kilkenny had been a help for the company and there was no reason why it would need to be based in a bigger centre like Dublin.

She added there were “huge opportunities” for businesses in the bio-technology and pharmaceutical sectors across the country at present. Her company is the Irish representative for several major research-material suppliers in a range of biological science fields.

Our plans for growth are that we are currently recruiting a number of highly-skilled individuals over the next 12 to 18 months to fill some newly-created roles within the business.”
