Guidance counsellors will be manning the 2012 Exam Helpline to provide information for students, parents and teachers.

THE NATIONAL PARENTS Council post-primary has launched a helpline to assist Leaving Certificate students who are receiving their exam results tomorrow.

The helpline, sponsored by eircom and the Irish Independent, is being supported by the Department of Education and staffed by members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors.

Open from 10am tomorrow morning for students, parents and teachers, the helpline will provide information on the points system, exam rechecks, repeating exams, CAO procedures, apprenticeships and other training.

The Exam Helpline can be reached on 1800 265 165 and will be open from 10am-7pm tomorrow (the day of the results), 8am-7pm on Thursday, 10am-2pm on Friday.

It will reopen on Monday 20 August (the day the CAO results are due to be sent out) from 8am-7pm, Tuesday 8am-7pm and Wednesday 10am-2pm.

“It is important for students to remember that they have options if they do not receive their first university or Institute of Technology course choice, there will be second and third round offers.” Rose Tully, helpline coordinator advises.

“Students also have the choice of PLC courses. Direct contact with colleges is recommended to see what is available on unfilled courses. The Exam Helpline will provide advice to students on course options and help point the way forward for students in doubt.”

Eircom head of brand and communications Lisa Comerford said the company was “delighted” to support this year’s Exam Helpline.

“Leaving Certificate results day is both an exciting and nervous day for students and the Exam Helpline is a great support to help answer any questions students and their families may have,” Comerford said at the helpline’s launch.
