New train station gets planning permission near primary school in Moyross

Construction is planned to begin in 2026 and is expected to take 15 months.

MOYROSS IS OFFICIALLY getting a new train station, after Limerick City and Co Council granted planning permission for its construction today.

Iarnród Éireann has welcomed the approval of the new stop on the Galway-Limerick train line.

The project is funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority (NTA).

Once funding has been confirmed, the project will move to tender preparation.

Construction is planned to begin in 2026 and is expected to take 15 months.

The station will be located at the rear of Corpus Christi Primary School and Moyross Community Enterprise Centre.

Hugh Creegan, the acting CEO of NTA said the development “marks a significant milestone in delivering sustainable mobility and enhanced connectivity for the community”.

“By linking Moyross directly into the broader rail network, this station is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable future for the people of Limerick,” he said.

Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien said the new station would provide “a key public transport connection to the growing urban area of Moyross, supporting its regeneration”.
