A 23-YEAR-old man has been charged with the murder of an elderly man, who was out walking his dogs in a woodland area in the UK before being stabbed ten days ago.
Peter Wrighton was out walking his two dogs in woodland near East Harling, in Norfolk, when he was attacked and received multiple stab wounds to his neck and head.
Alexander Palmer, a 23-year-old man from Bawdeswell, has been charged with Wrighton’s murder, and will appear at Norwich Magistrates Court later this morning.
The body of the 83-year-old was found in woodland at around 10.45am on Saturday 5 August.
At the beginning of the investigation, chief superintendent Mike Fawcett said: “I fully understand that residents will be shocked and concerned that a murder with this level of brutality can happen to an elderly man going about his daily business in our county”.
The family of Peter Wrighton paid tribute to the husband, father and grandfather, who had worked for British Telecom for 35 years.
His wife, of 59 years, said: “Peter was immensely kind and never had a bad word to say about anybody and people always seemed to take a liking to him.
When we think of Peter we remember him with fond and happy memories that will stay with us always.
Over 200 witnesses came forward with information to police, and over 100 officers and staff were working on the investigation into Wrighton’s death.
Palmer was arrested in the local area on Saturday. Police have since charged him with murder.
