Investigation after off-duty garda injured in Dublin assault

The assault happened shortly before 6pm on the Royal Canal Bank in Phibsborough.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after an off-duty garda was injured in an assault in Dublin this evening. 

The assault happened shortly before 6pm on Royal Canal Bank in Phibsborough, Dublin 7. 

It’s understood the off-duty garda, a man aged in his 20s, was attempting to break up a fight when he was assaulted. 

He was taken to the Mater Hospital for an assessment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A garda spokesperson said that welfare supports have been made available to the Garda by local management.

Investigations are ongoing.
