Open thread: What's the best way to cook a steak?

Do you put the sizzle in the steak?

FOR THREE DAYS this week, sirloin steaks are half-price in SuperValu.

So if you feel like treating yourself this Bank Holiday weekend – or if, fingers crossed, the sun comes out for a barbecue – now is the time!

We all have our tried, tested and time-honoured way of cooking a sirloin.

First things first… How to prepare your meat. To tenderise or not – and just how much seasoning to use? Do you take yours out of the fridge beforehand to rest, like top chef Gordon Ramsay does?

Then there’s how to actually cook it. Is it best fried, griddled or flame-grilled on the barbecue?

And of course, the most controversial question of all: how well done do you want it?

So here’s our question for you: What’s the best way to cook a juicy steak? Let us know your perfect method in the comments.

If you’re in the mood for some steak this weekend, get down to SuperValu. Fresh Irish sirloin steak is now half price. Offer valid 30th May – 1st June 2013.
