FRENCH POLICE HAVE arrested a man on a motorway north of Paris, as they search for a driver who drove his car into a group of soldiers this morning.

It is believed that the man, in his late 30s, was driving the car that was used in today’s attack.

Authorities said that police had shot and arrested a man on the A16 motorway after the car was stopped on the road.

Earlier, six soldiers were injured after they were struck by a car in the capital.

Police said that two people have been seriously injured in the incident in Levallois-Perret, a suburb to the north of the French capital.

The injured soldiers were on patrol at the time of the incident, which happened near a military barracks.

A police operation is underway and officers are searching for the vehicle.

Police described the incident as an “apparently deliberate act”.

France has been under a state of emergency since November 2015 and has seen a string of attacks on security forces who have been regularly targeted, particularly those guarding key tourist sites.

An 18-year-old with a history of psychological problems was arrested on Saturday at the Eiffel Tower after brandishing a knife and shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest).

He told investigators he wanted to kill a soldier, sources close to the case told AFP.

In February, a man armed with a machete attacked four soldiers on patrol at Paris’s Louvre Museum, while in April another extremist shot and killed a policeman on the Champs Elysees.
