Irish stars Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley take to the red carpet in Dublin
Both Buckley and Mescal earned Golden Globe nominations for their performances in the film this week
GOLDEN GLOBE-NOMINATED Irish stars Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley attended the premiere of their film Hamnet in Dublin this evening.
The stars of Chloe Zhao’s Oscar-buzz film took to the red carpet for a special screening at the Light House cinema in Dublin.
Based on Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel, the film follows William Shakespeare (Mescal) as he meets and falls in love with Agnes (Buckley).
After tragedy befalls the family, it tells the story of how their loss inspired him to write his masterpiece Hamlet.
It’s hotly tipped for Oscar nominations, which will be announced in the new year.
The film, which has a full Irish release on 9 January, earned six Golden Globe nominations – including best drama, best actress in a drama for Buckley and best supporting actor for Mescal.
Mescal previously earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in 2023′s Aftersun after he shot to fame in the 2020 adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People.
Buckley began her career on as a contestant on BBC’s I’d Do Anything, where musical theatre legend Andrew Lloyd Webber searched for an unknown actress to play Nancy in a production of Oliver.
She went on to earn several accolades, including an Oliver award, before breaking onto our screens in the miniseries Chernobyl and receiving an Oscar Nomination for 2021′s The Lost Daughter.
Director Chloé Zhao is no stranger to awards success, having been the third woman ever to win an Oscar for best director for Nomadland, which she also wrote, produced and edited.
