Paul Simon to play his penultimate touring gig at Dublin's RDS this July

The concert will take place on 13 July.

PAUL SIMON WILL play Dublin’s RDS in July, Aiken Promotions has announced.

The concert is set to take place on 13 July 2018, with special guests James Taylor and Bonnie Rait.

Tickets go on sale on next Monday 12 February at 9am from all usual outlets.

The Dublin gig will be the second last date on Simon’s farewell Homeward Bound Tour. The tour kicks off on 16 May in Vancouver, Canada and will travel around North America, the United Kingdom and Europe.

The American singer-songwriter issued a statement on Twitter this afternoon announcing the end of his live touring.

“I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly,” Simon said.

“Sadly, we lost our lead guitarist and my friend of 30 years, Vincent N’guini, who died last December. His loss is not the only reason I’ve decided to stop touring, but it is a contributing factor.

Mostly, I feel the travel and time away from my wife and family takes a toll that detracts from the joy of playing. I’d like to leave with a big thank you to the many folks around the world who’ve come out to watch me play over the last 50 years.

Simon said that after his final tour, he anticipates performing the occasional performing in an “acoustically pristine hall, and to donate those earnings to various philanthropic organisations”.

Once again, I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.
During his career, Simon has achieved 29 Top 40 singles in the US, with 14 of those reaching the Top 10 or higher.

The main thing is that the conversation has started in Government on how best to stop the Ukrainians taking advantage of us Irish taxpayers.

Make sure the jet is big enough to make it to China, last time Eamon Ryan traveled there to celebrate St Patrick’s Day he was forced to book a carbon-heavy 1st class seat with the general public on board the plane, how unfitting for an Irish government minister, and make sure it can be fueled by cabbage juice to keep the Greens happy, not one of this extremely polluting fossil fuel powered private jets.

@john dennehy: So you have a problem with Ireland,a tiny part free island at the end of Europe and the whole world celebrating our day and government ministers going around the world to further our country or you just want to have a go at the green party which is fine but it’s very important we milk every st Patrick’s Day around the world for our island of Ireland

@Daniel Roche: No, I have a problem with Eamon Ryan flying 1st class when every other day he is preaching to the rest of us about reducing our carbon footprints to save the planet, Eamon should practice what he preaches and lead by example and he should also know first-class tickets on a long-haul flight emits, on average, four times as much as an economy seat or maybe he just forgets these facts when it suits him and can’t wait to jump on the governments new private jet for his next jolly.

The real problem was the make it up as you go along refugee crisis just to make Martin and Varadkar appear to be world statesmen , until reality caught up with them .

So the plane broke down, he got stranded so they all got confused and started shouting at each other.
Thank god it wasn’t anything serious!
