Two killed in crashes in Co Galway and Co Clare

Man in his 30s was struck and killed by a car at around 1am today in Spiddal, Co Galway, while a woman died after her car struck a tree in Co Clare.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the death of a pedestrian in Co Galway earlier this morning.

The man, aged in his 30s, was struck by a car on the Barna Road (R336) at Salahoona in Spiddal at around 1am today.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and has been removed to University College Hospital Galway.

The road is closed this morning as gardaí carry out a forensic examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.

A woman was killed on the N18 at Hurler’s Cross, Co Clare, when her car left the road and struck a tree. She was the only occupant of the car and the collision occurred at around 5am today.

The road was closed earlier today for an examination of the scene, but has since reopened.
