Petrol station robbers confronted and tackled by off-duty gardaí
One garda was cut in the arm during the confrontation.
TWO MEN HAVE been charged after they were confronted by off-duty gardaí in the wake of an alleged petrol station robbery in Dublin.
Gardaí said two men entered a petrol station on the Naas Road at Rathcoole at 4pm yesterday, armed with a knife.
After demanding money from staff, they grabbed the till drawer and ran out of the station.
As they ran towards their getaway car, they were approached by two off-duty gardaí.
Confrontation
One of the men ran away, while the other tackled one of the gardaí, who received a cut to his arm, gardaí said in a statement this morning.
When he tried to flee in the car, the gardaí managed to block it and prevent it from leaving. They then detained both suspects until local gardaí arrived at the scene.
The two men, aged 26 and 36, were detained at Clondalkin Garda station and charged under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
They will appear before Blanchardstown District Court later today.
The injured garda did not need hospital treatment and was treated at the scene.
