The government has said this week that it has no plans to allow same-sex couples to adopt but what do you think?
THE GOVERNMENT HAS said that there are no plans to allow same-sex couples to adopt children in Ireland.
As it stands at the moment only individuals or married couples can adopt a child in Ireland. LGBT campaigners have described the situation as “transparently discriminatory” as same-sex marriage is not permitted in Ireland.
A Red C poll for the Sunday Times last year found that three in five people believe that same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt. However opponents argue that the traditional definition of marriage is the best way to bring up a child and that the current rules should remain in force.
