IRELAND’S PRISON CHAPLAINS have strongly criticised the country’s criminal justice system, which they say has become politicised to the detriment of prisoners and society.
In their annual report, chaplains claim that prisoners are being ‘warehoused’ and add that political will is the only thing standing in the way of making prisons safer and drug free, RTÉ reports.
The report also criticises the media over coverage of the release of Larry Murphy, which it described as “shameful and dangerous”. The mismanagement of Murphy’s release resulted in a “36 hour witch hunt and circus that was relayed across the world”, it said.
