Elderly man tied up and had head covered by pillowcase in burglary last night

A sum of money was taken and the man in his 60s suffered face and head injuries.

DETECTIVES JUST NORTH of the border in Newry are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary in the Slieveshan Park area of Kilkeel, Co Down.

At around midnight, two or three men forced their way into the home of an elderly man.

Once inside, the burglars tied up the man, in his late 60s, and then covered his head with a pillowcase. They then proceeded to ransack the house looking through drawers and cupboards.

The men stayed in the property for around 30 minutes, and left the resident tied up in his bedroom when they left.

He eventually managed to free himself, and raised the alarm through a neighbour.

A PSNI statement said that a sum of money was taken from the house, and the man suffered facial and head injuries.

Police in the north are appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area of Slieveshan Park yesterday evening to come forward.
