Bomb squad tasked to investigate suspicious device in Belfast

The Westlink is closed in both directions between Broadway and Clifton Street.
THE POLICE IN Northern Ireland are in attendance at a security alert in the Cullingtree Road area of Belfast, following the discovery of a suspicious object.

The Westlink is closed in both directions between Broadway and Clifton Street.

The bomb squad have been tasked to the scene, which is largely a residential area.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

SDLP West Belfast Councillor Tim Attwood said that the security alert, one of a number in recent weeks, is causing massive disruption for everyone, especially now that the remainder of schools are back, he said.

There is simply no place for this type of disruption. Society has moved on and nobody wants this madness in their community.

People are fed up with this type of disruption and just want to get on with their lives in peace.
