Several people evacuated after apartment fire in Clonmel
The fire broke out at a residential site on Quay Road shortly before 9pm.
A NUMBER OF people were evacuated after a fire broke out in an apartment block in Clonmel yesterday evening.
Gardaí, ambulance service staff and fire crews from Clonmel and Cahir attended the scene at a building on the Quay Road in Clonmel shortly before 9pm.
Emergency responders evacuated several residents from the building before the blaze was extinguished.
No injuries were reported, though a number of people were treated for smoke inhalation.
The scene remains closed off this morning as gardaí investigate the fire.
“Enquiries are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson said.
Local independent councillor Richie Molloy said a “major disaster was averted” thanks to the rapid response.
“Many people rescued from an apartment block in town. Most were treated at the scene by the National ambulance service,” Molloy said.
