Man (24) dies in Galway road collision

The man was the only occupant of a car that collided with a traffic island at Knockdoe.

A MAN IN his twenties has died following a collision in Co Galway.

Gardaí in Galway are investigating a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Knockdoe, Co Galway (N17) at approximately 2.30am this morning.

They said the 24-year-old male driver of a car was fatally injured when the car collided with a traffic island at Knockdoe. He was the car’s only occupant.

His body has been removed to Galway University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place later today.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators, and diversions are in place.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Galway garda station 091-538000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
