RTÉ makes formal offer of free online content to Irish newspapers
The proposal is for video packages of Irish news produced by RTÉ to be made available to the country’s main newspapers free of charge.
RTÉ HAS MADE a formal offer to Irish newspapers to share some of its multimedia content free of charge.
The Sunday Business Post reports that RTÉ made a formal proposal to the National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI) group last week which is now under consideration.
The proposal is for video packages of Irish news produced by RTÉ to be made available to the country’s main newspapers free of charge. The cost of production would be borne entirely by RTÉ. No editing or advertising branding could be done by the newspapers to the video packages, the paper adds.
The latest development follows a previous acknowledgement by the State broadcaster that there was tensions between it and Ireland’s major newspapers over its share of the online market in Irish news.
NNI had previously accused RTÉ’s digital arm of unfair competition claiming that RTÉ.ie went beyond its public remit.
